Big pairs usually make powerful starting hands. A pair of deuces is a weak starting hand, but a pair of aces is the best starting hand. The weak hand could be played only in the late position in an unraised pot. A few medium pairs can win the pot, however with smaller pairs; you would be looking to make a set or a straight draw if possible. The odds of getting a pair as a starting hand are 16:1 or about one out of 17 hands. The odds of getting any specific pair such as a pair of aces are 220:1.

Razz Poker Rules

Razz is a type of Seven-Card Stud Poker game where the hand with a lowest possible combination shall win the pot. Here, the lowest winning hand is A-2-3-4-5. The flushes or the straights are not counted against you and the aces are considered low. The combination from the Ace to Five is known as the ‘wheel’ or the ‘bike’. Unlike the Omaha Hi/Lo games, Razz does not have Eights or better. The winning hand cannot have a card higher than 8, so as to make it a lower hand. It is unlikely that a Razz hand would have a pair in a hand.
