What is the Origin of the Word ‘Poker’?
Poker happens to be one of the most played games in the world, however not many people know about the history behind poker. For that matter, we do not even know how the game got its name. There is no definite answer behind the coining of the term ‘poker’. But one such theory suggests that the word was derived from the German verb called ‘pochen’, which means to brag or bluff. There is another contrasting theory which suggests that the word was derived from the French word ‘poque’, which was a card game similar to poker.
